The otter stood bolt-upright and frozen as his perceived enemy faced him. He adjusted himself on a slippery seat beside the little waterfall -- but did not relax. He could not seem to clearly see the man who had stood frozen for many minutes, studying the little creature as he had gone about his daily fishing. The threat seemed real, even if it wasn't tangible, and the otter wasn't about to just ignore a sense that told him danger was near.
On the other hand, the man felt privileged just to witness the little fisherman living his life, and wished the otter hadn't discovered him. If ever there was a human not wanting to admit his connection to a race of random killers, it was the artist who now stood facing the otter in its own kitchen.
