The new Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve
With houses inching ever-closer to the lake, and the tule marshes disappearing, The Nature Conservancy recently moved to protect 3000 acres of critical wetlands and uplands along 11 miles of lake front. This mural was painted for the new Visitor Center, that features a one-mile boardwalk trail.
The field work for this painting included exploring the area to find just the right combination of mountains and marshes, and the highlight was witnessing a diving perigrine falcon protecting her nest. Yes, they certainly ARE fast!
