The Beach
This little section of California beach holds a rather amazing (at least for me) connection to my life. Here, in the early 1980's, I anchored my 40' Kettenburg sloop as I worked it north to Eureka. It was a rough and harrowing voyage, but I did it. In the background of this painting, I anchored and actually rowed ashore through the surf to Bolinas just to get off the damned thing.

Later, much later, I painted some work for the park service down there in the foreground. That work is installed in an exhibit right on the beach. I like to think it's a little art gallery of my own, right there for people to enjoy as they head for a day on the sand.
And now this painting, positioned from the headlands overlooking it all. You can walk up the trail and there, above this beautiful scene, see a piece of my art that, hopelfully, adds to your experience. It certainly has added to mine!
An person can't ask for more out of life.
