The Smith River of Northern California
You won't find a clearer river on the West Coast of this country than the Smith. It runs out of the Klamath Mountains, where chemically-bound minerals and thin soil stay put, instead of eroding downstream like most other Western rivers. Rare plants grow here, like the Darlingtonia, a bug-eating pitcher of poison stew. They say Sasquatch lives here as well, but I've never seen her, him, it.
The Forest Service manages these mountains, and the river, and thought it unique and important enough to spend money on me to paint it. The original mural hangs in Forest Service Headquarters in Eureka California.
